Single Image, Standout Results: Creating Marketplace Assets with AI Image Generators

Are you tired of your basic product images getting lost in the crowded Amazon marketplace? While a strong main image gets shoppers to click, holding their attention and skyrocketing your conversion rates lies in crafting a stunning, comprehensive suite of marketplace gallery images.

Recently, I’ve been using AI image generators as a fast, automated method for transforming basic product shots into engaging, full-scale marketing collateral. By feeding the AI a basic “ingredient” image and applying carefully crafted prompts, you can turn standard photos into eye-catching, transformative images that convert.

Here is a behind-the-scenes look at my process, real examples, key learnings, and prompting recipes you can adapt for your own listings.

The Magic of AI: From Basic to Breathtaking

1. Creating the Perfect Vibe (Cards & Envelopes)

The Goal: Turn a simple shot of cards and envelopes into a relatable, cozy crafting environment.

The Process: I started by placing the product in a busy scene and refined the prompt until I achieved the perfect light, bright, and tidy desk space.

The Prompts:

  • “Create an image of some of these white c6 size envelopes on a cosy writing desk with handmade greeting cards and letters and writing pens”.
  • “Create an image of a crafting table in a light, cosy desk space with some of the cards and envelopes from the source images used for card making crafts”.

Once you achieve the desired result and wish to replicate that specific image for different product variations (such as alternative color options), you can simply feed the AI-generated image back into your tool of choice as a reference and prompt it to adjust the color:

  • “Recreate this image but make the stack of envelopes the purple color from the second reference image instead of pink”.

2. Building an Appetizing Scene (RIO Coffee Syrups)

The Goal: Create a professional, Amazon-compliant main image that surrounds the product with appetizing context while retaining the pure white background.

The Process: For a coffee syrup, I wanted the customer to instantly visualize the delicious drinks and desserts they could make.

The Prompt:  “Professional square e-commerce main image for Amazon of a prominent RIO Cookie coffee syrup bottle centered on a pure white background. The bottle is tightly surrounded by a cluster of desserts and drinks of a similar size to the bottle: to the left, a warm, gooey deep-dish chocolate chip cookie with a thick golden cookie syrup drizzle on a plate, and directly behind it a tall, fluted cookies-and-cream milkshake glass… to the right, a clear glass mug containing a layered latte… Lighting is bright and even, highlighting the product label and all textures. The composition is compact and square.”

3. Setting the Mood (Flavoured Teas)

The Goal: Match the environment to the flavour profile of the tea, maintaining exact packaging accuracy.

The Prompts:

  • Cardamom Tea: “Create an image showing this box of cardamom flavoured black tea in a moody library setting with a cup of black tea next to it and whole cardamom and cardamom powder scattered nearby. Use mostly greens and browns. Keep the accuracy of the packaging”.
  • Strawberry Tea: “Create an image showing this box of strawberry flavoured black tea in a lovely cottage kitchen with a cup of black tea next to it and cut open strawberries scattered nearby. Use mostly reds, pinks and browns. Keep the accuracy of the packaging.”

4. Reverse Engineering: Lifestyle to Amazon-Compliant

The Goal: Sometimes you have a great product lifestyle image, but not the Amazon-compliant main image with the product displayed on a pure white background. This is a common challenge for sellers who possess high-quality environmental shots but lack the “hero” image required for technical marketplace compliance.

The Process: Generative AI can solve this by reverse-engineering existing lifestyle assets into clean, isolated product shots.

The Prompts: By providing a descriptive prompt, the AI can strip away the background while maintaining the product’s integrity. For example, a prompt such as “Isolate the brush product from this image and create an Amazon compliant main image of just the brush, exactly as it is pictured centred on a pure white background” allows you to salvage professional assets and repurpose them to be main image compliant

5. Seamless Additions (Pet Food)

The Goal: Add living elements to standard packaging shots to increase emotional appeal, without losing the clean product shot aesthetic.

The Prompt:

“Add a small grey rabbit peeking from behind left hand side of the packaging bag from image 1. The rabbit is eating from a small pile of the exact animal feed shown in image 2. Keep the package from image 1 exactly as it is, maintaining all text and graphic details perfectly. The scene should be a clean product shot on a plain pure white background.”

Tips & Tricks: What Makes a Good AI Main Image?

Through testing these variations across different platforms, I’ve learned a few crucial tricks for getting the best outputs from AI:

  • Protect the Packaging: AI can easily warp text and logos. Always instruct the AI to “Keep the accuracy of the packaging” or “maintain all text and graphic details perfectly.” Anchoring the original packaging using image-to-image referencing or masking is crucial.
  • Define the Lighting & Composition: Specify “bright and even lighting” and a “compact and square” composition. Amazon main images need to pop and utilize as much of the square frame as possible. (Read more about what makes good product photography in our blog: The Ultimate Guide for Amazon Product Photography)
  • Use Color Palettes: Guide the AI’s aesthetic by dictating colors (e.g., “Use mostly yellows, oranges and browns”). This helps create a cohesive mood that matches the product.
  • Control Proportions: When adding props, specify their size relative to your product (e.g., “cluster of desserts and drinks of a similar size to the bottle”) so your hero product isn’t dwarfed.

A Quick Note on Amazon Compliance & AI Disclosure

While AI unlocks incredible creative freedom, staying compliant with marketplace policies is essential. When uploading your generated assets, especially for A+ Content, Amazon now requires you to declare if an asset was created using artificial intelligence. In the Creative Assets manager, you’ll see specific metadata fields where you must tag whether the file is AI-generated or includes photorealistic AI-generated people. Tagging these accurately keeps your account compliant with Amazon’s media requirements and avoids any unexpected listing suppressions.

Takeaway Prompting Recipes
