How To Sell on Amazon Using Shopify Product and Fulfilment Functionality
Not every business wants to hand fulfilment to Amazon.
If you’re already selling through Shopify and happy with the experience this provides to your customers then why not sell on Amazon using Shopify product listing and order fulfilment functionality?
There are four main reasons businesses take this approach
- Their current fulfilment method is cheaper/comparable to Amazon FBA
- To maintain control of the delivery process
- They don’t want the operational overhead of learning and managing FBA
- It’s easier to manage stock levels by fulfilling from a central warehouse
If any of this rings true for you then read on as I show you how to sell on Amazon using Shopify to managing listings and order fulfilment.
Requirements (for USA and Canada stores only)
Before we delve into the details check that you’re eligible to sync your Amazon and Shopify accounts. You’ll need;
- An Amazon Seller Central Professional Seller account, that is Amazon charges a monthly subscription and fees for selling.
- To sell in USD (for Amazon.com) or in CAD (for Amazon.ca). Your Amazon store region must match your store currency on Shopify.
- Your return policy is as good or better than the Amazon return policy.
- An active Shopify plan.
- Currently Shopify does not offer this integration outside of the United States and Canada.

How to Sync Shopify and Amazon Stores
If you meet the qualifying criteria then you can move on to the set up phase.
First, login to your Shopify account
- From your Shopify admin, click the + button beside the Sales channels heading.
- On the Add sales channel dialog, click Amazon to learn more about the sales channel.
Amazon will appear in the dialog box. If it doesn’t click the link to go to the Shopify App Store
- Search for Amazon then click Add channel.
- On the Amazon account page, click Connect to Amazon.
- Follow the prompts to allow information to be shared between your Shopify and Amazon Seller Central accounts.
- You’ll be redirected back to your Shopify admin when you’ve finished this step. In the User Permissions section of your Amazon Seller Central account, confirm developer access for Shopify.
For the purposes of this article I am going to assume that you’ve already set up your Amazon listings. The most important thing to note here is that your Shopify and Amazon product listings must match.

We’ll now walk-through how to link identical listings across Shopify and Amazon.
How to Connect Shopify and Amazon Product Listings
One of the nice benefits of fulfilling Amazon orders from Shopify is the fact that you can edit and publish the Amazon listing content from your Shopify admin.
Amazon’s editing systems are notoriously unfriendly so not only will you be able to centralise product information you’ll also never have to experience the pain of editing listings in Amazon.
Now, let’s jump into the sync process…
Go to the Amazon sales channel from your Shopify admin dashboard. Select ‘Listings’.
If the Amazon sales channel app detects any linkable products this banner will show at the top of the page. If products are fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) or Seller Fulfilled Prime (SFP) the app will not display them.
Click Link products from the Listings page:
- Click Browse products next to the product you want to match to a Shopify product:
- In the Select a product pop-up, click the product you want to link to, then hit Select product:
- Choose how you’d like to manage inventory for the linked products:
- Shopify provides two options
- Use Shopify inventory settings – matches Amazon inventory level to the Shopify inventory total
- Manually manage inventory – seller manually adjusts the quantity on sale on Amazon. This can be done from both Shopify and Amazon dashboards
- If you have a production lead time enter a Production time. In Amazon Seller Central you might use the ‘Handling Time’ for the same purposes.
- The default production time will be set to 2 days if you choose ‘Not required’. If you need more days to produce the item before delivery then simply add more days when creating the link.
- Now choose the variant you want to link to your Amazon listing:
- Click Link Products to link your existing Amazon listing to your Shopify product.
Once you’ve linked your product to a listing, the Listings page will display in your Shopify admin like this:
You can unlink all the linked variants for a product on the Edit listing page.
This completes the basic Amazon set up. The next step is to choose the right Amazon product category.
So there you go. Your Shopify products and content are now live on Amazon. Let’s now look at fulfilling your Amazon sales channel.
How to Set Up Different Products Variations Amazon and Shopify?
The Shopify integration is so good because it replicates your product and variation setup directly onto Amazon. This can save a huge amount of time.
The process is efficient but at the cost of any control you have over whether products and variants are sold differently on either platform.
For example, if you sell T-shirts on your Shopify site with colour and size variations on one listing then this is how they’ll be displayed on Amazon.
This is of course the optimal way to merchandise your products but there may be reasons why you don’t want to or can’t replicate this structure.
Often this is because Amazon doesn’t allow parent-child variations to be created for particular categories.
In these instances you will need to create separate listings in your Amazon account.
You may also want to create listings that display products and size variations but separate listings for different colours of that product.
How to Fulfil Amazon Orders Through Shopify
Centralising fulfilment can create significant operational efficiencies and reduce costs.
This applies for small and large retailers for differents reasons.
Once a customer purchases on Amazon you’ll receive a notification in the Seller Central dashboard. It can take up to 30 minutes for the sale to display in Shopify.
This will be done automatically and the order will be marked as an Amazon sale.
You will now fulfil the order in the same manner that you fulfil your Shopify orders.
When fulfilling the order remember that you must adhere to your Amazon handling and delivery schedule.
Failure to do so will annoy the customer. It can aslo lead to issues with Amazon.
If delivery continues to fall behind your agreed shipping schedule your buy box win rate can be affected. In worse case scenarios Amazon can suspend your account.
Processing Amazon Refunds and Payments
Both customer refunds and your Amazon sales revenue will be processed from your Seller Central account.
This should all be relatively straight forward to manage. Amazon will automatically process payments every 7 or 14 days.
Refunds require more of your time but you’ll handle them in the same way that you do with your Shopify returns. The only difference is that you manage customer communications from within your Amazon account.
The one important thing to remember is that although the refund is processed via Amazon it is still important to record the refund in Shopify to ensure that your sales data is accurate.
Shopify and Amazon have made it very easy to fulfil Amazon orders from a Shopify account.
If you have good financial and/or operational reasons to not use Amazon’s fulfilment options then it makes sense to sell on Amazon using Shopify and take advantage of the automated product listing and fulfilment options.
